Mesa Verde Country® has been a shopping/trading center for over 1,000 years. Galleries, trading posts and other businesses throughout the area provide collectors and browsers the opportunity to discover a wide array of quality merchandise.
Several of the trading posts in Mesa Verde Country® have been owned by the same family for generations, gaining a reputation for honesty, fairness, and detailed knowledge of the items they sell. Salespeople are happy to educate and inform the first-time buyer or supplement the knowledge of a collector. Area trading posts carry a variety of arts and crafts from across the Southwest, including Hopi Kachinas, Navajo and Apache baskets, pottery from the New Mexico pueblos, renowned Navajo rugs and exquisite Southwestern jewelry.
Several galleries carry the work of some of the most famous artists in the Southwest. Original paintings, limited edition prints, sculptures, ceramics, weavings, and jewelry are all on display. Mesa Verde Country® is home to two pottery factories where Native American artists design, carve, and paint intricate pieces of pottery. In Cortez, visitors will also find a working studio/art gallery displaying work by two local artists.
In addition to the excellent trading posts and galleries found in Mesa Verde Country®, you'll find shops that specialize in the Old West and a number of clothing and gift shops that carry those special items you'll want to take home as a souvenir of your visit.
